Summary

This grant helps employers in British Columbia train their workforce (including new hires) so that people can gain better skills, improve job security, or move into higher‐quality jobs. It’s meant to respond to changing labor market needs and growing skills demands.

Eligible applicants are businesses of various sizes (small, medium, large) that are operational in B.C. for at least a year, plus self-employed individuals in some cases. The training must lead to a more secure job, promotion, move from part‑time to full time, or similar advancement. Only Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or protected persons are eligible participants, and the training must be delivered through approved, third‑party providers. The training must be less than one year in duration (i.e. under 52 weeks).

The program reimburses 80% of eligible training costs for each participant, up to $10,000 per person. There’s also a cap per employer each fiscal year—employers can receive up to $300,000 for all their eligible training costs combined in that period.

For priority, small businesses, first‑time applicants, and employers in industries or regions with pronounced worker shortages are given preference. Employers apply using a business‑account system, submit required participant info, pay for training up front, and then claim reimbursement after training has begun.

The grant is not for individuals to apply on their own—it must be through an employer. The intent is to help both employers and workers adapt to shifting economic demands, support reskilling or upskilling, and ensure the local labor force can respond to new or growing needs.
